Kenilworth is a historical neighborhood in Asheville NC. Shortly after becoming a resident here I found an opportunity to contribute by creating an identity system and banner for the neighborhood. The end result alludes to the neighborhood’s history while remaining somewhat timeless. It also embraces the frequently spotted black bear as a symbol of the pioneering spirit of early Kenilworth and the friendly and familial vibe of the residents.
Some other neighborhoods in Asheville already had established their brand and banner. I wanted to create something for Kenilworth that was in conversation with those existing banners while also establishing our own spin on things.
The hero color palette Terra Cotta, is inspired by the roof of the ‘Chiles House’ where the last mayor of independent Kenilworth resided prior to it being annexed by Asheville.
The font for ‘Kenilworth’ was inspired by the font used in this vintage realty ad. I found a similar font, redrew parts to align with the vintage one and condensed the font to work better in a vertical banner layout.
